Cosmetic Actives – Dragon’s Blood

Dragon’s blood It is the blood-red material that gives the pink hue to Gardenia facial cream. But what exactly is it?

One of the basic principles of KALYKA products is the selection of effective raw materials. You will definitely notice that we are fond of active ingredients that derive from nature. Dragon’s blood is not an addition that we will frequently find in commercial products. There are reasons for this, as herbal active ingredients have a high cost and some special requirements in their handling, which means that they make life for manufacturers a little more difficult.

Let’s see what it is: it is a hydro-glycolic extract that derives from the resin of Croton Lechleri, a tree that grows in South America. Dragon’s blood comes entirely from its plant of origin. It does not contain preservatives, petroleum by-products or animal by-products (it is vegan). It has two very strong certifications (COSMOS and ECOCERT) both of them signify that during the production process, very specific and strict environmental and economic conditions are met (sustainability). The product meets the criteria of the “natural” category.

Ok, but is it effective?

It’s main ingredients are:

  1. Proanthocyanidins. They are polyphenols with very powerful antioxidant properties. In vitro tests have shown that they are more effective than vitamin E and even more effective than vitamin C.
  2. Taspine. It is a rare alkaloid, extremely effective in healing skin lines. In addition, it has a strong anti-inflammatory effect.
  3. Lignans. They are polyphenols which are starting compounds for phytoestrogens synthesis. It has been found that they quadruple the speed of skin healing.
  4. Pigments and flavonoids. They strengthen the skin’s defense mechanisms against environmental conditions.

So, what are dragon’s blood properties?

  1. Anti-aging. It participates in key processes related to cell aging (molecular aging).
  2. Accelerates skin regeneration, collagen production and fibroblast function. This means that it noticeably improves marks (wrinkles) and fine lines on the face.
  3. It has a strong anti-inflammatory effect.
  4. Anti-pollution. Activates the synthesis of antioxidants so that it creates a strong defense against environmental pollution.
  5. Strengthens the skin’s defenses and its natural immunity.
  6. It is a natural and very powerful moisturizing factor.

For all of the above, dragon’s blood is an excellent herbal active ingredient, very effective for damaged and/or dry skin. We have included it in the formula of the Gardenia face cream of the KALYKA series. It’s obvious that we are fond of it because we have used it in such a generous amount that… it also contributes to Gardenia’s appearance! Gardenia’s characteristic beige-pink hue is due to dragon’s blood.
